a small blurb on what words cannot express.
To the Freeman Foundation:
From the moment I decided to study overseas, I sought to be a Freeman Scholar. I spoke to the previous scholars and learned about how the freedom of learning and traveling without a huge financial burden to follow. Their experiences in and out of the classroom inspired me to take every step to financially prepare. However, Freeman Scholars are more than financially supported Shidler students; instead they are the international go-getters and cultural explorers of tomorrow. Now, as a recipient of the Freeman scholarship, I am extremely grateful to continue cultivating international learning with the generous support of the Freeman Foundation.
Being a Freeman Scholar is to be a part of a lasting legacy of cultural discovery and its relationships to business. I hope to go above and beyond in fulfilling my role as a Freeman Scholar and an advocate for learning overseas. Once again, thank you to the Freeman Foundation in supporting me and my international endeavors.

Kook Min Hur Foundation
I extend my warmest gratitude for your financial support in my study abroad endeavors. I am able to explore South Korea fully and freely, taking each moment with a breath of gratitude. Your investment in students such as me make life-changing experiences such as study abroad possible.

To my parents, Nathan and Lois:
I know you always complain I'm not home enough, but this time I want to tell you in advance I won't be home for a while--six months to be exact. In that time, I will be living my best life on a new school campus, eating at the amazing Japanese 7-11s, and enjoying dollar sushi every week. But in all seriousness, I will also be missing you guys, Nicholas, and the rest of the family. I can promise you I'll have FOMO every time a family meal comes up on our family group chat, or when Elyse gets married, and everyone is home except me.
I'll miss you guys every day, even the days I forget to text or call. I'll also miss home, where I can speak English and be understood without relying on Google Translate. I promise to be safe, get some rest, and not eat out too much (although my increase walking mileage will help keep off the weight). I'll put school first, especially since my scholarships depend on it.
Thank you for supporting me in everything I do, even if that means I don't always do yard work. I love you so much and I will try my best to FaceTime somewhat frequently. Even though I'm in Hawaii writing this, I can't wait to come home!
